The local Councillor – who has been working with statutory agencies and the PSNI in recent months to address the growing problem – said local people were fed up being frightened, fearful, scared and intimidated by those assuming they can control the whole area.
Councillor Scott Wilson said: “I am completely appalled at this attack on a man with a young family, who has bravely and consistently stood up to the poison of paramilitarism in the Clandeboye area.
“Local people have had enough. They are fed up with paramilitary flags marking out territory and want ownership of the neighbourhood returned to local people, but sadly the growing influence of paramilitary activity has been a constant worry throughout 2015.
“The persistence of paramilitarism in Northern Ireland continues to poison our society – and its effects are felt everywhere. Only Alliance has consistently called for the very grassroots structures to be tackled and the new replacement for the IMC must be held accountable.
“While those behind this attack meant to intimidate, I urge everyone in the Clandeboye area not to give in to the vile thugs and use the opportunity to unite the community further. Those behind this don’t represent the majority and I would urge as many as possible to show support and solidarity for the family by attending a rally outside their home at 6pm tonight.”
