The Belfast City Councillor proposed the motion on Monday night, April 1, adding his career should be given prominence in the proposed visitor attraction at City Hall.
Councillor Maire Hendron said: “The sad passing of James Ellis earlier this year was a great loss for Belfast and Northern Ireland.
“With a career spanning decades, Jimmy provided a lot of laughter for so many – and that laughter continues today, with people still discovering Z-Cars and the Billy Plays.
“I am delighted to have received the support of the whole Council for such a worthwhile motion and look forward to continuing the debate and securing a positive outcome at the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee.”
