Cllr Maire Hendron said: “Christmas is a key period for many traders to help sustain their business, so it is vital that people are encouraged to visit the shops in their high street and in particular Belfast City Centre. These measures are good news for both traders and shoppers.
“I am very pleased that there will be an embargo on any road works in the run up to Christmas. The last thing that shop owners need is for travel disruption to put people off visiting their business.
“By encouraging people onto public transport, I hope we will see a reduction in the usual congestion on our roads that occurs at Christmas time.”
