The Calls to Action is a road map for the introduction of two policy mechanisms which it is hoped will deliver better outcomes for children and young people – A Statutory Duty to Co-operate and Children’s Budgeting.
Chris Lyttle MLA said: “We need to see government departments, local authorities, agencies, public bodies and all interested organisations working together in the planning, commissioning and delivery of services to achieve the best outcomes for all our children and young people.
“I am fully committed to achieving better outcomes for children and young people in Northern Ireland. At a time of scarce public resources, a joined-up approach to public policy, budgeting and spending is critical to meet needs of children and young people in our community.
“For me, creating better outcomes for children and young people is inextricably linked to the Programme for Government commitment to build a shared and better society. Spending focused on children and young people represents both a clear statement of what we value as a society, and a smart way to deliver value for money.
“I would like to congratulate Children in Northern Ireland for the work they are doing and I look forward to working with them on these important issues.”
