Fitzpatrick describes death of elderly man in burglary as a heinous crime

Alliance Coleraine Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has described the death of a man in Coleraine following a burglary as a heinous crime. The elderly man who was in his 70s confronted the burglar in his house in Glenmore Gardens of Mountsandel but fell in the altercation and later died.

Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “This was a heinous crime. I am disgusted by the man who carried out this burglary. I hope he is apprehended by police quickly.

“I would like to pass my condolences to his wife and family. This was a terribly sad incident that should never have happened.

“If anybody has any more information about this crime then I would urge them to contact the police.”
