Webb calls for spate of car hijackings in Belfast to stop

Alliance North Belfast representative Cllr Billy Webb has expressed his shock after an attempted car hijacking took place in Ardoyne in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A man threatened the driver of a van but was unable to get into the van before the driver drove off to safety. This is the 19th attempted car hijacking in Belfast in recent weeks.

Cllr Billy Webb said: “This spate of car hijackings must stop before somebody gets seriously injured or worse.

“I am glad that the driver was able to get away from this hijacker safely without injury. I would urge all drivers to make sure that they keep their doors locked and windows up when driving.

“If anybody has any information about this attempted car hijacking or any of the other hijackings then I would urge them to contact the police. These criminals are causing the public to be scared when out driving, but I would urge all drivers to be vigilant to this crime.”
