Martin annoyed at disruption caused by hoax alert in Lisburn

Lisburn Alliance Councillor Stephen Martin visited a number of residents in Greenavon Mews this morning following a hoax security alert in the area. An object was discovered by a resident in the Greenavon Mews area. A number of homes in the area were evacuated while the object was examined with Greenavon Mews and the Ballynahinch Road being closed to traffic. Following examination the object was declared a hoax.

Councillor Martin stated: “The PSNI must be commended for their diligent and speedy response to this incident. Greenavon Mews is a quiet residential area and the events of last night saw residents, some of whom are elderly and have medical difficulties, being moved out of their homes in the middle of the night causing significant inconvenience to all involved.

“The cowardly actions of those who seek to cause fear must be condemned in the strongest terms. I urge anyone who has any relevant information on this hoax alert to contact the PSNI.”
