Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “You cannot underestimate the seriousness of this debacle. I call it a debacle for it seems to me that as time goes on the bigger the fines seem to get.
“To be facing a fine of potentially £100m is extremely troubling and this is an absolutely shocking figure. Where is this cash going to come from?
“This fine could potentially put massive pressure on our frontline services. We simply cannot, for the sake of vital services and projects throughout Northern Ireland, be losing a sum like this. People are aghast at the potential size of these fines and people will want to know how and why this has come about.”
