Sheila McQuaid said: “This was a shocking attack on officers who are there to help our community.
“We have seen a number of attacks on police officers in recent weeks, but the Northern Ireland public has come out in support of these brave men and woman. The public has shown its revulsion for these despicable attacks that must stop now.
Harry Hamilton said: “It was extremely fortunate that none of the officers were hurt or killed in this callous and cowardly attack. I would like to pay tribute to all those officers who are helping keep our streets safe.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police.”
