Naomi Long MLA said: “I welcome these plans as it will give local government staff the power to help tackle quality of life issues such as littering and fly-postering, and improve the cleanliness of our streets and neighbourhoods.
“This legislation could help us maximise the potential of our parks and green spaces, and I believe it can deliver quicker and more effective resolution of problems relating to litter, noise and nuisance problems
“Northern Ireland is a place whose breathtaking scenery attracts thousands of tourists every year. To maximise the potential of our landscape we need to protect the environment and tackle littering. These proposals will not only give councils the powers they need, but also help us to play to our strengths in attracting more tourists.”
