ALLIANCE Assembly member for Strangford and Ards councillor, Alderman Kieran McCarthy, will be attending a service to commemorate all those who have lost their lives in Strangford Lough on Monday, May 24.
The short service will be held at the Council’s car park at Shore Road, Kircubbin at 1pm to dedicate a plaque to the Lough’s victims. Ald. McCarthy stated:
“Over the years, Strangford Lough has sadly claimed numerous lives, and the idea for this plaque was prompted by the loss of five young lives almost 10 years ago at White Rock, Killinchey.
“It was a real shock to the community here at the time, and it remains a tragedy that will never be forgotten.
“While Strangford Lough is a beautiful stretch of water, sadly the commemoration is also a reminder to all that it can be a very dangerous place.”
