Scorch damage was caused to St Mary’s Star of the Sea, located on the Shore Road, when the property was attacked with a flammable liquid in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It is not the first time the Church has been targeted.
Councillor Billy Webb said: “No place of worship should ever be subjected to any attack. This is not the first time St Mary’s Star of the Sea has become a target and this thuggish behaviour must be brought to an end. I am shocked and horrified it has yet again become a target.
“This latest attack on the church will sadden the parish priest, the parishioners and the local community representing all faiths – “Those doing this really need to take a step back. This is just an attack on us all.”
“This campaign of intolerance must be brought to an end quickly and I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible so that those responsible may be dealt with before the courts.”
