North Belfast Alliance Representative Cllr Billy Webb has condemned rioting last night during which shots were fired at police. The incident took place in the Ardoyne area of North Belfast and petrol bombs and a pipe bomb were also thrown.
Cllr Billy Webb said: “It is deeply troubling that there has been another night of violence. People want peace and want to live free from the violence and intimidation that haunted Northern Ireland for so long.
“It is particularly disturbing that a number of very young people appear to have been present and we need parents to act responsibly and make sure their children are at home.
“We are trying to promote Northern Ireland globally to attract tourists and investment, and events of this nature are extremely damaging.
“The appalling actions of a few must not be allowed to impact on the massive progress we have made in recent years to build peace. We need to build a shared future to ensure stability and the real determination that exists to do so will not be undermined by this violence.”
