AN Alliance Party delegation met Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern, and Justice Minister Michael McDowell this afternoon to discuss ongoing developments in the talks to restore devolution in Northern Ireland.
Speaking afterwards, Alliance Leader David Ford stated: “I believe that considerable progress has been made on issues like ministerial accountability and the formation of an Executive around compromises that Alliance suggested at Leeds Castle.
“It is now up to the DUP and Sinn Fein to live up to their democratic responsibilities as the two largest parties and make the final compromise deal to restore devolution.
“I believe that time is running out and the two parties must move within the next few days. The time for talking is now ended – it’s now time for action.”
Alliance Deputy Leader Eileen Bell added:
“Today, Alliance also raised concerns with Irish ministers about the neglect of the victims of violence, especially the families of the ‘Disappeared’. Both Governments have a part to play in ensuring that the relatives of victims are not ignored in any forthcoming settlement.”
