Alliance Leader David Ford has condemned those responsible for intimidating a Catholic family from the Rathenraw estate in Antrim.
He has called for greater action by public authorities against sectarian emblems and graffiti.
David Ford said: “I utterly condemn those who intimidated Gemma Dollery and her four young children from her home. It is clear that there was an involvement from Republicans in the area and trouble arose because she objected to a Republican mural.
“Ms Dollery was brave in objecting to an offensive mural. However, it should not be left up to individuals to take action.
“The Holywood flags case has clearly established that offensive displays which incite hatred can be dealt with under the law. It is time that public agencies across Northern Ireland took action against such offensive displays and did not leave it up to individual citizens.”
