Councillor Sara Duncan has welcomed Roads Service’s prompt response to her complaints about motorists on the Saintfield Road driving through red lights at the pelican crossing at Beechill/Lenaghan.
Roads Service has erected a new sign warning motorists that they are approaching the crossing, which is beyond a bend in the road going away from town.
Having lobbied the Department of Regional Development to install a crossing, Councillor Duncan was dismayed when pedestrians complained of speeding motorists who ignored the pedestrian traffic lights.
Cllr Duncan said: “This is excellent news for users of this crossing, and will improve road safety on a stretch of road where lives were in danger. I would plead with drivers on the Saintfield Road to read the new warning signs, and give pedestrians a chance to cross this busy road safely.”
