Neeson says electricity competition could benefit consumers

Alliance Enterprise Spokesperson Seán Neeson MLA has welcomed the introduction of a new electricity supplier in the Northern Ireland market today saying having competition will hopefully deliver an improved deal for consumers. Airtricity has opened for Northern Ireland domestic consumers today.

Seán Neeson MLA said: “In this difficult financial climate it is particularly welcome that we have more competition as this will hopefully deliver a better deal for the public.

“Many people struggle to make ends meet at the moment and the potential for lower bills due to a more competitive market is a positive prospect.

“I have long campaigned for a better deal for consumers in the energy markets and this is a very important step forward for Northern Ireland.

“I would like to take this opportunity to call on NIE to reduce their costs both to domestic and business consumers, and I know this a particular concern to the business sector.”
