Alliance Councillor Emmet McDonough Brown has welcomed news work is set to begin on the relocation of Belfast Bikes to three key locations across South Belfast – a move he has long campaigned for.
The new bike docks will be located at sites on the Ormeau Road, Stranmillis and at Catalyst Inc, after the scheme has proved extremely popular in the area.
Councillor Emmet McDonough Brown said: “I’m delighted to see the Belfast Bikes progress further into South Belfast. This move is reflected in the hard work of all involved in making this a reality and I will continue to work with my Alliance colleagues to see this scheme develop further.
“The bikes are used across South Belfast, creating an alternative to sitting in traffic in what can be one of the most congested areas in Belfast. It is essential we support and improve the role out of this vital scheme as a way to protect our environment and offer an easy to access exercise alternative.
“Whether you are using them for necessary travel or simply to get out and move more, the increase in cycling across the area is fantastic to see. I will continue to monitor the progress of these latest site to ensure they are up and running as soon as possible and will also continue to look for other areas where the Belfast Bikes could also make a difference.”
