McCarthy says UUP are in turmoil over leadership

Following Basil McCrea’s comments that Sir Reg Empey should vacate the UUP leadership immediately, and David Campbell’s subsequent comments, Alliance MLA Kieran McCarthy has said that the UUP appears in turmoil.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “The UUP appear to be in real turmoil at the moment. Firstly we have Basil McCrea saying Reg Empey should go immediately, and now we have their Party Chair David Campbell saying Basil is not a senior member of the party.

“If the UUP cannot even manage problems internally within their party, how can people expect them to be able to be an effective political party?

“People want politicians focused on delivering for them, not individuals who are involved in internal power struggles within their party.”
