McCarthy says let gritters do their work without intimidation

Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has blasted the individuals who intimidated workers that were trying to grit local roads. Roads Service withdrew the service from a Londonderry estate and had to reschedule it to an early morning one because individuals were throwing stones at workers.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I am angry that thugs are trying to stop workers from gritting our roads and keeping road-users safe.

“Given the current cold snap, it is imperative that gritters can do their work unhindered. This is a matter of public safety and those involved in these sinister activities need to be caught.

“These acts of gross stupidity simply hurt the community that the perpetrators live in. Local people will be outraged that a few fools have intimidated workers and forced Roads Service to reschedule their work.”
