Kieran McCarthy said: “I welcome the decision of the boards to fully reinstate the summer schemes. This is fantastic news. The summer schemes are essential not only for people with learning disabilities, but also for families and carers.
“As someone who has a daughter with learning disabilities I know how important having a service of this nature is.
“I hope all boards will continue to provide funding for these schemes because they provide such an excellent service that they should never be put in jeopardy. I know that we are facing difficult times in relation to public finances but these summer schemes should not have to suffer and savings should be found outside of key services.”
