Alliance North Belfast Councillor Nuala McAllister has hit out at those behind a hoax device which forced the closure of a road in the area. The Whitewell Road has now reopened following the security alert, which police say was caused by a hoax device. Residents had been forced to leave their homes during the incident.
“I condemn those behind this hoax device in the strongest possible terms,” said Councillor McAllister.
“This came during morning rush hour, when the Whitewell Road usually sees a large volume of traffic. Instead this morning, residents, businesses and commuters were all inconvenienced, as well as having a drain put on public resources to deal with it.
“Local people do not want this disruption to their lives, which achieves nothing, and I urge those behind it to rethink their actions. I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately so those responsible can be caught.”
