The MLA for East Belfast was speaking after Leadhill Primary School was among seven schools across Northern Ireland – including schools in Larne and Bangor – forced to evacuate on Tuesday morning.
“It is incomprehensible how anyone could conspire to disrupt and intimidate young children at school.
“I want to commend the actions of staff who acted with professionalism and courage to ensure the young pupils were moved to safety immediately. Their calm response ensured those behind these incidents have achieved nothing and will not succeed.
“I would urge anyone with any information on those behind these depraved and senseless attacks on the well-being of children to contact the PSNI without delay.”
Belfast Councillor Michael Long, and a member of Leadhill Board of Governors, added: “This must have been a terrifying experience for all involved and my thoughts are with all the staff and pupils at this difficult time.”
