The BLF is offering free lung function tests and information to shoppers in Connswater Shopping Centre, Belfast, from 10am-4pm, as part of the first ever ‘Love Your Lungs’ campaign in Northern Ireland.
Over 31,000 people inNorthern Irelandare diagnosed with COPD. It is thought that many more suffer from the condition without knowing it. The ‘Love Your Lungs’ campaign aims to find those who need help and provide the relevant referrals.
The event is supported by local respiratory nurse consultant, Anne Marie Marley, who was recently awarded an MBE for her services to respiratory health inNorthern Ireland. She said: “I’m really looking forward to attending the ‘Love Your Lungs’ event on No Smoking Day.
“Smoking is a major cause of all lung conditions, including COPD and will make symptoms significantly worse. What better time to kick the habit then, No Smoking Day?
“Early diagnosis is crucial to successfully treating most respiratory conditions. Taking two minutes to have a lung function test could save a lot of future uncertainty and discomfort.”
Chris Lyttle MLA said:”I’m delighted to support the British Lung Foundation’s ‘Love Your Lungs’ event on No Smoking Day.
“We’ve all got a responsibility to look after ourselves. Making lifestyle changes, such as quitting a smoking habit, can make a big difference to our health and the health of those around us. “
