Families were evacuated from Carson’s Dale, Ballygowan, around 8pm after the device was found. It was believed to be targeting a prison officer. The device was removed for forensic examination.
“It is sickening anyone would be targeted in this way but particularly a prison officer, who along with others, keep us safe in the community,” said Mr Lunn.
“Attacks on them are attacks on our whole society. The people focused on keeping Northern Ireland in past must not be allowed to succeed and we must redouble our efforts to ensure their culture of terror does not return.
“I would urge anyone with information about this incident to take it to police immediately.”
