Trevor Lunn MLA said: “I do not understand the refusal of the Education Minister to give the integrated education sector the same amount of attention that he has given to shared education.
“While shared education has a place in our education system, it should not be seen as an alternative to the integrated model which the Department has a legal obligation to encourage and facilitate, a duty which it has so far failed to fulfil.
“Integrated education is by far the only viable option when it comes to advancing a shared future. Pupils from all communities must be given the option of being educated together.
“As we seek to build a new Northern Ireland, integrated education is a key mechanism in stamping out the tribal division of the past in the next generation. I would again urge the Minister to give it the attention it deserves.”
