Trevor Lunn MLA said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to all the pupils who have received their GCSE results today. The fact that the three sciences had the highest percentage of the A* grade is great news as we attempt to encourage more people to take up the STEM (Science, Ttechnology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects at higher and further education level.
“After years of hard work and study, I hope that everybody gets the results that they needed.
“However, there will be some who didn’t get what they had hoped for and I would urge them to take time to consider all the options that are available to them by contacting their school or the Department for Employment and Learning’s careers service.
“Our Further Education Colleges offer a wide range of courses and there are also other routes such as apprenticeships to consider.”
