Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn has condemned those behind an assault being treated as sectarian in which a 14-year-old boy suffered head injuries.
The boy, who has since been discharged from hospital, was attacked by three youths with sticks during disturbances in the North Queen Street area of North Belfast on Saturday. Police, who said a crowd of people watched the attack, confirmed they are treating it as sectarian.
“My thoughts are with this young man and I am relieved he has been released from hospital. I hope he makes a full recovery from his injuries,” said Mr Lunn.
“There can never be any justification for assaulting any individual – there is absolutely no place for violence on our streets.
“I would urge anyone with information on this brutal attack to contact the police with it immediately.”
