The monument at Ballysillan Avenue, commemorating three fusiliers from Scotland who were killed by the IRA in 1971, had paint thrown over it.
Mr Lunn said the incident was “a cowardly act”.
“There can never be any justification for these attacks. This will undoubtedly cause hurt to the families of the deceased soldiers and every right-thinking person.
“Those responsible should be ashamed of themselves, as they have no respect for the dead and are clearly intend on damaging community relations.
“I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately.”
