Long welcomes removal of shops from open market

Alliance Party Deputy Leader Naomi Long has welcomed the decision to remove a row of shops in Ballyhackamore from the open market, and said there now exists an opportunity to negotiate an outcome for the benefit of the whole community.

Naomi Long stated: “This decision is in the interests of all concerned – the traders, the owners and those who use the shops and live nearby. Now a deal can be worked out by all concerned in the interests of all concerned.

“This is great credit to the residents and traders at yesterday’s protest, many of whom I spoke to. They have worked hard to show how important this area is to those who live and work locally.

“Taking these properties off the open market means that all sides can discuss the best options for mutual benefit.”
