The company’s East Belfast factory will be the site for the design and manufacture of the wings for the CSeries aircraft. It is believed the firm has also received commitments from potential customers for another 250 planes.
Alliance MP Mrs Long said the investment was a vote of confidence in the local manufacturer.
“Bombardier is a major employer here and this move will help secure the future of its highly skilled workforce. It is a fantastic shot of encouragement and shows the faith globally in Short Brothers’ ability to deliver their products on time and in perfect order.
“It also reflects positively on East Belfast and also Northern Ireland in general, showcasing the fact that we are open for business on a wide scale.
“The proud industrial heritage of East Belfast, with its internationally competitive companies, has been given a massive boost with this news.”
