Speaking after the event, Naomi Long MP said, “It was a privilege to be present on what was such a historic occasion. Barack Obama became the first US President to address Parliament in Westminster Hall, and only the Queen, the Pope and Nelson Mandela have previously done so.
“In what was a powerful speech, the President’s reflections on the huge strength which a society can draw from diversity, rather than allowing that diversity to be made a point of weakness, resonated strongly with me, spoken as it was during Northern Ireland’s Community Relations Week.”
