Long saddened at Hughes Christensen closure

Alliance Castlereagh Councillor Michael Long has expressed his sadness that the drill bit factory Hughes Christensen in Castlereagh is to close with the lose of 210 jobs. Last year 135 workers were made redundant at the factory.

Cllr Michael Long said: “This is very sad news that this company that has been in operation in East Belfast for 55 years is to close. The loss of 210 jobs will be a big blow to the local economy.

“This is a reminder that the economic downturn is still having a major impact on our local community.

“I would call on the Executive to put measures in place to assist these workers with finding new employment.”
