Naomi Long MP said: “As we increasingly look to attract inward investment, this trade deal could result in a large economic benefit for Northern Ireland. We need to expand our export base to improve our economy, so we should welcome any deal that increases the number of regions or countries that we could do business with.
“If his potential trade deal is agreed, then the UK must remain in the EU for us to automatically benefit from it.
“Northern Ireland and the UK benefits economically and socially by having easy access to the markets in other member states. By increasing this to America, David Cameron is helping the argument for us to remain in the European Union.
“At a time when countries around the world are looking to open up their markets even further through trade deals such as this one, we should not look to isolate our economy by leaving the EU.
“There is a great level of support in Northern Ireland for the EU, as we are net beneficiaries through various funding programmes such as peace monies. The fact that these talks began in here at the G8 summit should further increase that support.”
