Hendron condemns two armed robberies in East Belfast

Pottinger Alliance Councillor Maíre Hendron has condemned two armed robberies which took place in the East Belfast area toady. The first took place at a bank on Newtownards Road at around 1.30pm and the second in which a shot was fired happened at a building society on the Cregagh Road at around 2pm.

Local Councillor Maíre Hendron said: “To have two armed robberies take place in an area in one afternoon is very worrying. It is deeply disturbing that a shot was fired in one of these incidents. The total disregard shown for the safety of staff and others is despicable.

“These two incidents have shocked the local community, who would definitely not expect something like this to happen in these areas. These incidents took place in broad daylight in busy areas, so I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact police immediately.”
