Hendron condemns Belfast hate crime

Alliance Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron has condemned a hate crime in South Belfast in which three individuals were attacked by a gang armed with golf clubs. The two men and one woman were attacked by 15 individuals on Lawnmount Street on Monday night. The victims suffered cuts and bruises, while one of the men lost a number of teeth.

Cllr Maire Hendron said: “This was a shocking attack. There is no place for any type of hate crime in our society. We must challenge the views of those responsible. We must send out a clear message that their actions are completely unacceptable.

“My thoughts are with the victims following this sickening attack. I hope they will be able to make swift recoveries from the injuries they sustained. No one deserves to be a victim of such an attack.

“Those responsible are very dangerous individuals who must be urgently apprehended by the Police to face justice in the courts. I would urge anyone with information about this hate crime to contact the Police.”
