Alliance Derry-Londonderry Councillor Rachael Ferguson has said the approval of the business case for the area’s city deal is a massive step forward for the local area.
The Secretary of State is due to approve the multi-million pound Derry City and Strabane deal, with the heads of terms being signed for the £250 million to be invested in the region over the next 15 years. It is estimated the deal will add over £200 million a year to the local economy.
“This is welcome news and a massive step forward for the Derry City and Strabane area,” said Councillor Ferguson.
“This day has been long-awaited by everyone here, and we now eagerly anticipate the assorted projects starting. The city deal has the potential to be a game-changer, not just for Derry-Londonderry, but the entire north-west region.
“It will bring much-needed investment, employment and regeneration, while helping the area move into the future on a surer, more financially sound footing, while delivering for all the people in our community.”
