Alliance Derry and Strabane Councillor Rachael Ferguson has expressed disappointment after it was confirmed a City Deal for the area cannot proceed without devolved Government.
The multi-million pound package, originally announced in May, would see the north-west benefit from £105 million in Government funding. However, Derry City and Strabane District Council has now confirmed the release of the funding is dependent on an Executive being formed.
“While there had been some discussions around the potential for the funding to not be released, nevertheless this official confirmation is disappointing,” said Councillor Ferguson.
“A City Deal has the potential to be a game-changer, not just for Derry-Londonderry, but the entire north-west region. It would bring much-needed investment, employment and regeneration, while helping the area take a massive step into the future.
“We need sustainable power-sharing restored and an Executive up and running, not only to make progress for everyone in our society, but to help deliver the change the north-west deserves.”
