Alliance Councillor Kate Nicholl has again called on Féile to limit the Wolfe Tones set list, following yet more inappropriate chanting.
Kate said: “Each year Féile continues to grow in strength, attracting high numbers of festival goers keen to enjoy to wealth of inclusive events on offer.
“Yet every year the good work by the organisers to promote social inclusion and encouraging interchange with other cultures and communities through traditional and modern forms of artistic expression is let down by the decision to book the Wolfe Tones and allow them to perform one song in particular.
“There is no point denying that organisers don’t know what they are getting when they book the Wolfe Tones and aren’t showing signs of stopping what has grown to be an annual booking. Yet they must not forget their core aims, and given they receive substantial public funding, we cannot stand back and allow any glorification of terrorism to be tolerated.
“That’s why I’m urging organisers to think ahead of next year and rather than simply play lip service to inclusion, take direct action in the form of an agreed set list ahead of time, ensuring there is no opportunity for what has become a successful festival to end on such a disappointing note.”
