Stephen Farry MLA said: “This is excellent news. The Minster has recognised the good work of the school and also its long term viability.
“Today’s announcement is a reflection of the hard work of the school, the parents, the wider community in Holywood and local elected representatives in the area.
“I am pleased to have assisted this campaign through lobbying the Minister and also facilitating a debate in the Assembly.
“As an integrated school, Priory College has a wide appeal and offers the most sustainable form of education. The school ticks all the boxes with respect to collaboration and area planning – key aspects for the new vision on education.
Dr Farry concluded: “Critically this announcement also opens up new opportunities for further modernisation of the primary and nursery sectors in the town.”
Holywood Alliance Councillor David Alderdice also welcomed the decision, saying: “I would like to congratulate everyone that took part in this campaign, especially Tim Page, who is Chair of the Governors’ working group for the Priory rebuild. All their hard work and dedication has paid off. A flourishing Priory College is vital for Holywood and the wider community.”
