Dr Farry stated: ” I feel very privileged to be Mayor of such a wonderful Borough and want to focus my all efforts on promoting North Down throughout my mayoral year. It is a pleasure to follow the example of former Mayor, Councillor Alan Leslie, who I would commend for his conduct and commitment during 2006/07.
“I would like to thank my wife, parents and sister Gemma, who are all here today, for their support throughout my career as a politician and in anticipation of a busy year ahead.
“During my Mayoral year, I look forward to further progressing the great work being done in the Borough on Good Relations, to the opening of new waste management facilities at Balloo, to work starting on a new leisure centre in Bangor and also on the Walled Garden in Castle Park. It will be an exciting year.
“I also look forward, over the next few months, to participating in the marvellous summer of events that North Down has to offer, as well as the forthcoming Freedom of the Borough Ceremony for the Prison Service.
“Also, in light of our new devolved administration, I look forward to doing everything possible throughout the year to promote the importance of local representation within the plans for the Review of Public Administration.”
