Stephen Farry MLA said: “I hope that there will be a massive turnout for the march for civil marriage equality. It is important that we send out a strong message showing the level of support that exists for equal civil marriage in Northern Ireland.
“I was very pleased that Belfast City Council recently passed an Alliance motion in favour of equal civil marriage with protections for faith groups who wish to continue to observe and practise marriage within their beliefs.
“Following the ‘Yes’ vote in the Irish referendum on marriage equality, Northern Ireland is now the only region in these isles that has not legalised equal civil marriage. The jubilant scenes that took place following the referendum result have undoubtedly given a boost to the campaign in Northern Ireland.
“I hope that we will continue to see a growth in support for equal civil marriage and further engagement with all sides.”
