Alliance Councillor Danny Donnelly has said while it’s welcome workers at the border control post in Larne have been able to return to work, questions remain as to the source of the threat against them.
The decision follows a PSNI threat assessment, given to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and a Council risk assessment.
“The safety of staff remains paramount and the top concern throughout this entire episode,” said Councillor Donnelly.
“Therefore Alliance is happy they are able to return to work without more disruption, on the back of risk assessments carried out by the PSNI and Council. Any continuing issues at the port could have a major economic impact, not only on Mid and East Antrim but throughout Northern Ireland.
“However, questions remain as to the nature of this threat and where it came from. Alliance will continue to ask questions of the Council, work to establish a timeline of events and help ensure staff at the port remain safe, while carrying out their work over the coming period.”
