Destination parks across Mid and East Antrim will soon offer accessible changing facilities for children with disabilities, thanks to Alliance Councillor Danny Donnelly.
The Larne Lough representative secured the move at a recent Council meeting, amending a motion seeking play equipment for children with disabilities be put in place at locally-termed destination parks.
Danny said: “While I welcomed the on-going work to see our play areas opened up to children with disabilities, it is essential we think of the whole picture and make sure that children with disabilities and their parents have the opportunity to spend time together locally without fear over how and where they can access adequate facilities.
“I was shocked recently to discover that across the Mid and East Antrim area there is a complete lack of changing facilities for children with disabilities and have been glad to raise this issue on behalf of the Changing Places campaign locally.
“As a community we must strive to see our Borough as the most open, inclusive and welcoming space it can be. This move to include these much needed facilities at certain parks across the area will only help us achieve this aim – making sure all children can comfortably enjoy valuable time developing their imaginations and playing within our many fantastic parks.”
