He said: “The decision itself demonstrates trust in Northern Ireland’s ability to host political gatherings at the highest level.
“When global leaders and the world’s media arrive next year, we will have further opportunities to show that we are a modern, stable, democratic society, with beautiful scenery and unrivalled hospitality, open to both business and tourism.
“With the World Police and Fire Games, Derry City of Culture and the G8 meeting, 2013 is shaping up to be as historic for Northern Ireland as 2012.
“I hope that the leaders will spend time, aside from the G8 meetings, talking to our Executive Ministers and local business leaders about the potential for investment here.”
