Aiming to tackle the daily challenges facing those living with the condition, Mr Dickson unveiled a series of events at Stormont on Monday.
Stewart Dickson MLA said: “In Northern Ireland over 70,000 people are living with diabetes, and that number continues to grow.
“This week provides us with a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of a condition that is expected to affect more and more people over the coming years.
“With a lot of misunderstandings surrounding the different types of diabetes, it is important we get more people talking – helping not only those already living with the condition, but to demonstrate that in some cases diabetes is preventable.
“I’m delighted to official launch a week-long schedule on such an important issue and I would urge as many people as possible to take part in the planned events.”
