Stewart Dickson MLA said: “At Committee, I requested that DRD and NI Water officials come to the Regional Development Committee to provide a briefing on progress and future plans to deal with any adverse winter weather conditions.
“It is appropriate and timely that officials come to speak to the Committee in January to discuss progress and the measures in place to deal with any severe winter conditions.
“I am pleased to note that there is double the amount of salt and grit in stock compared to this time last year, and I also am very hopeful that NI water will be able to cope with adverse weather condition given their emergency planning preparations.
“It is also very important that we receive an update about the gritting of footpaths in town centres. It’s essential that our town centres can be kept fully accessible to ensure that businesses are not negatively impacted upon by winter weather. This is a vitally important time of the year for our retail sector and access to our town centres is crucial.”
