Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson has expressed his support for events marking World Cancer Day 2020, saying they will help raise awareness of efforts in cancer detection, prevention and treatment.
The East Antrim MLA said his recent experience with the disease gave him a renewed focus on helping raise awareness.
“Few people have not felt the impact of cancer in their lives, whether it is a family member or friend fighting the disease, or even themselves,” he said.
“Personally, I am currently recovering from surgery and treatment for oesophageal cancer, and I want to thank all those who supported me, especially the exceptional healthcare staff at Belfast City Hospital.
“Now the Assembly has returned, we have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive cancer strategy for Northern Ireland, and ensure the system gets the funding and leadership it needs to deliver the best care possible.”
