These amendments would add in environmental protections to the Planning Bill. They had earlier put in a petition of concern on amendments to set up a third party right of appeal.
Stewart Dickson MLA said: “The DUP have again shown their undemocratic side by refusing to allow a majority of the Assembly to vote these amendments through.
“They clearly are afraid of allowing the Assembly the chance to make a democratic and fair vote on these issues.
“This is a flagrant abuse of the system that was intended to stop one side of the community from dominating the Assembly. It is bizarre for the DUP to suggest that these amendments will have a detrimental impact on one side of the community when they were submitted by theUUP.
“We need to see urgent reforms to prevent future dictator style abuses of the Assembly system of the DUP.”
