The East Antrim Assembly Member said: “I would appeal for calm in Carrickfergus at the moment. Saturday night in Carrickfergus saw the first shooting of a PSNI officer in the line of duty since the force was created. Such horrific incidents must be consigned to the past and never be repeated.
“People involved must take a step back and realise the massive implications of their actions. Northern Ireland is moving down a path to absolute peace and this progress must not be hindered by any group.
“Paramilitary groups have no place in our society. The world has left them behind. Ordinary people in the Castlemara area are living in fear – its time that those involved in these incidents stopped inflicting hurt on the community.”
